TOWNIES BOUNCE BACK TO BEAT BUCS
After a tough night at the English last week, the Townies returned to the win column with a 26-6 Saturday night at home against the Bay State Bucs. The Townies jumped to an early 7-0 lead on a pass from Bucky Jones to Nelson Montas. The Bucs respond with a drive on their own by scoring a TD but a missed extra point kept the Townies ahead by a single point. It will be the only score of the day for the visitors as the Townies shut down the Bucs the remainder of the game. On offense, Mike Dohenne's two yard run in the second quarter make the score 14-6 and an outstanding catch by Nelson Montas later in the 1st half on a deep throw make it a 2 score game. The Townies sealed the deal with Bucky's third TD pass of the night as he threw a bomb to TP to make this game out of reach for the visitors. For the home town team, they go to 4-1. While the visitors remained winless for the season but they have played real hard. Next game the Townies host the Gladiators Saturday night at 7PM.
TOWNIES SUFFER FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON
The battle of 3-0 squads ended on a sour note for the Townies as they lost to the Ravens 27-7 at the English High School last Friday night. The Townies jumped to an early 7-0 lead on a TD reception by Nelson Montas. It was downhill from there though as the offense did not score the rest of the game. The defense played hard but likewise they struggled all night. Townies look to bounce back next weekend as they face the Brockton-based Bay State Bucs with some young talent on the roster.

TOWNIES EDGE OILERS
In the marquee game of the week in the Eastern Football League (EFL), the Townies traveled to Randolph to face the rival Oilers. It was a hot and steamy Friday night as it was a barnburner throughout the game. The entire game was a defensive struggle as both squads have trouble moving the ball throughout. The game was close as both teams slugged it out at the line of scrimmage. The Townies struck first with a field goal from placekicker Paul Olliverra after an impressive first drive. The score remained 3-0 until midway through the second quarter when Townies quarterback Bucky Jones found Manny Parent in the end zone for an 11 yard touchdown pass. The Oilers used a two-quarterback system to try to confuse the Townies D but to no avail. Randolph was not to be denied however as they took the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown by DB Dan Carroll to cut the deficit to just a safety at 9-7 which is where the scoreboard stayed until late in the 4th quarter. However in a defensive struggle, field position was key. Townies D came out strong in crucial situations including some key plays, a bad snap on a field goal attempt, a sack for a safety which forced the Oilers to score a touchdown instead of a field goal, and interceptions on the red zone. After a solid punt which pinned Randolph at their own 2 yard line. On 2nd & 10, the Townie defense stepped up and recorded a safety to move the game to 11-7. Oilers made one last gasp but to no avail as the Townies ran out the clock during the last half of the fourth quarter as key first downs on running plays proved to be the difference. It was a classic EFL game though as the Townies escaped with a win.
TOWNIES BEAT COWBOYS FOR OPENING DAY WIN
On Saturday, June 26, the Charlestown Townies opened the 2010 EFL season by facing off against the Braintree Cowboys at Lawrence High School in the prime-time game of the EFL Kickoff Classic, which was held to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the league. The Townies did not disappoint as they beat the league rookie Cowboys 26 – 0.
Offensively, the Townies controlled the line of scrimmage as they racked up three rushing touchdowns. Captain Neville DePass scored on two separate 5-yard rushes and totaled over 85 yards for the game. Rookie Danny Guillame kicked off his Townie career by taking the first play of the second half, and his very first snap as a Townie, 80 yards for the third rushing touchdown of the game. While it was the first live action of the season for the Townies, the potential of the new talent added in the offseason combined with the returning veteran experience looks potent. In fact, the same thing can be said on the defensive side of the football as well. Former EFL MVP Brandon Johnson has returned and looked like his old self as he intercepted and returned a Cowboy pass for a 64-yard touchdown to close out the first half scoring for the Townies. The defense played solidly throughout the game and allowed only three first downs all game. Another noted change was Harold Roy who has switched from playing wide receiver to outside linebacker and seemed to transition quite well. Finally, rookie safety Matt Duggan, who totaled 11 tackles, 3 sacks, and one interception, was named Player of the Game by the EFL. Just like the offense, the potential of the new talent on defense mixed with the leadership of the returning veterans looks to be exciting.
